The Burnaby Winter Club Midget Prep Academy team completed their two-game pre-season opener in Penticton Saturday with a second win over Okanagan Academy. After opening with a 9-2 win vs OHA White on Friday, BWC followed up with a 6-2 decision vs OHA Red.

BWC’s Kazeem Bapoo opened the scoring about six minutes into the game on a helper from Kent Johnson. About two minutes later, Sean Donaldson combined with assists from Tom Sweeney and Tyler Schleppe.

OHA’s Adam Diotte got Red on the board with 7:12 left in the period, but Elan Bar Lev Wise would close out the period with 50 seconds to go to give BWC a 3-1 lead going in to the middle frame. Nick Poisson and Bapoo assisted.

Shots were 18-9 BWC.

BWC added two more in the second. Bar Lev Wise scored again just 19 seconds in, off passes from right winger Bapoo and d-man Andrew Hunt. Sean Donaldson put BWC up 5-1 on an unassisted marker with 5:26 left in the frame.

Shots were 10-6 BWC.

OHA’s Dixon Mozell scored early in the third to make it 5-2, but that would be it for OHA scoring in the game.

Kalen Szeto finished the scoring for Burnaby with 3:22 left. Bar Lev Wise and Ryan Helliwell got helpers.

Shots were 7-6 OHA in the frame, for a total of 34-22.

Nick Lee got his second win for BWC.

BWC plays again next weekend, in their first regular season CSSHL Midget Prep games, facing Shawnigan Lake Saturday and Pacific Coast Hockey Academy Sunday on the Island.

They’ll finish the week with a rare mid-week game, at the Prospera Centre on Tuesday in a rematch with Shawnigan Lake.
