Cougars Gavin Grant named WHL Goaltender of Week

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince George Cougars goaltender Tavin Grant has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 2, 2017.

Grant, a product of Burnaby, B.C., put together a dazzling 47-save shutout of the Portland Winterhawks Sunday, delivering the Cougars their first victory of the season in the form of a 3-0 triumph.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound netminder stopped 12 shots in each of the first two periods and made 23 more in the final period to hand the Winterhawks their first loss of the season, picking up his first career WHL shutout in the process.

With the clean sheet, the 19-year-old Grant holds a 1-1-0-0 record in 118 minutes of action this season and sports a 2.03 GAA. His .949 SV% is good enough for second in the WHL and his shutout puts him tied atop the league leaderboard.

The Cougars will conclude a three-game road trip in Kamloops against the Blazers Wednesday, October 4 (7 p.m. PT) at the Sandman Centre.
