It’s game on Friday night between the top two ranked bantam AAA teams in Western Canada.
Puck drops at 7:45 pm at North Shore Winter Club, between the number one ranked host Winterhawks and the number two ranked Burnaby Winter Club.
Both teams are powerhouses in the local Pacific Coast AHA, with North Shore at 7-1-0, 50 GF vs 3 GA; and BWC Bruins at 5-0-0 and 32 GF vs 2 GA.
Including exhibition and tournament game play, NSWC is 29-2-0; and BWC is 27-3-2.
The teams have faced each other twice this year, with each team winning a 4-3 decision. BWC won the first decision on Oct 14 at the Chilliwack tournament; then dropped the second game at North Shore. BWC won the tournament.
NSWC team captain Jordy Bellerive missed both games due to illness and has just returned to the team so it will be interesting to see him in action against the team’s number one rival.
The teams were scheduled to play each other in the semi final three weeks ago in the Medicine Hat tourney, but a freak bout of some kind of virus struck the Hawks and they were forced to forfeit the game. BWC advanced to the final but were defeated by South Side Athletic Club in a close 6-4 final.
BWC newcomer James Malm is the Bruins top offensive threat – he scored a hat trick in the Chilliwack game vs and was a tournament MVP in Medicine Hat, so NSWC will likely have a pair of their top 4 D on the ice whenever he’s out tonight.
Connor MacDonald and Nolan Kneen have been the leading D pair for the Hawks this year.
NSWC defeated BWC in a nail-biter last March to win the BCs and advance to the Western Finals. The team has 6 returning players.
