Bob was raised in the Lower Mainland and played at Richmond Minor before leaving to play Junior B in the KIJHL at 15. Bob then played two years of BCHL in Penticton, before finishing his junior career in Kamloops with the WHL Blazers.

Bob has been coaching the Peewee A1 team in Whistler for the past five years.

Dean Chynoweth, Associate Coach

Chynoweth, 48, played defence for the Medicine Hat Tigers before being drafted 13thoverall by the New York Islanders in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. The Calgary native went on to play 241 NHL games over nine years with the Islanders and Boston Bruins.

After his retirement, Chynoweth went into coaching. He was the bench boss of the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2000-2004 before joining the Swift Current Broncos as Head Coach and General Manager from 2004-2009. He also spent three seasons as an Assistant Coach in the NHL with the Islanders and four years as a Head Coach of the Colorado Avalanche’s American Hockey League affiliates in Cleveland and San Antonio.

Chynoweth’s father, Ed, was the President of the WHL for over 20 years and founded the Edmonton/Kootenay Ice franchise. The WHL’s championship trophy is named after him.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to join the Vancouver Giants coaching staff,” said Chynoweth. “I am looking forward to working with Glen Hanlon, Peter Toigo and Jason McKee. The WHL and junior hockey have influenced me tremendously from my days as a player and a coach as well as my father’s contributions to the league as President and later as an owner. This history has had a significant impact on me and my family, and I am looking forward to returning to the WHL with the Giants organization.”

Jerry played minor hockey in Calgary before graduating to the WHL Medicine Tiger Hats where he played for 4 years, winning the Western league championship in 1995.
