Here the list of competitors and schedule for this year’s Tier 1 BC Bantam Provincial Championships.
Host: Kelowna, format, 6 teams, 5 game round robin, top two teams advance to championship game.
BC Champion advances to Western Canadian Bantam Championships, held April 2-5 this year in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The tournament features two teams from the host province (host plus provincial champion) plus the BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan champions.
BC were Western Canadian champions in 2014, represented by NSWC. In 2013 NSWC were also BC Champs, but lost to Alberta in the Western Final. In 2012 and 2011 BWC represented the province, winning the westerns in a rare back to back performance.
This year the two Lower Mainland teams are again represented by the North Shore Winter Club and the Burnaby Winter Club, two teams who are consistently at the top of the Tier 1 bantam standings, due in large part from their ability to draw players from a wider area than MHA teams.
This year NSWC were undefeated in league play, posting a 17-0-3 record; BWC finished second with 16-1-3 record, but won the PCAHA league banner in championship game, downing the Winterhawks 3-2. In regular season play, North Shore had posted four wins over BWC, two in exhibition, one in placement and one in league play.
Kamloops, Kelowna and Prince George all play in the Okanagan Mainline League for the regular season. Kamloops finished first with a record of 9-1-2, Prince George was second at 4-5-2 and Kelowna were third at 3-5-4.
The Victoria Raquet Club plays in the Vancouver Island AHA league, and finished first in the regular season with a record of 8-1-1. Nanaimo finished second with a 7-2-1 record. VRC won three straight in the Island playoffs then downed Nanaimo 6-3 and 5-0 in the finals to advance to the provincials.
