It was a disappointing tournament for Team BC at this year’s Canada Winter Games, as the team managed just two wins in six games. Four years ago, the team won gold in the previous CWG.

Team BC won their first game in the opening round robin in one of the two top pools, downing Nova Scotia 5-3, then lost to Manitoba 5-2 and to eventual champions Ontario 6-4. Ontario downed Alberta 3-1 in the gold medal game Sunday.

The third place round robin finish placed Team BC in the quarter-finals where they faced off against #2 Quebec. The BC team opened a two goal lead in the first but then gave up five in a row before closing with one in the third to finish the game down 5-3.

The loss bumped the team out of the medal running, and into a consolation matchup against New Brunswick, the team they’d beaten in their first game. BC got the same 5-3 result in the second match, which set up game six vs Nova Scotia for fifth place.

Nova Scotia had also repeated their sole round win vs Saskatchewan to advance.

In the final game, BC again scored the first two, one in the first and one in the second, before Nova Scotia came back to tie it 2-2 by the end of the second, and then take the win on a goal at 11:58 of the third.

Shots were 30-29 for Nova Scotia, goal tender Jordan Hollett closed out the game stopping all 13 shots he faced. BC had 8 PIM, NS 6.
