BCHL Update – Week 3

in regular season

October 2, 2018

Here’s a look at the current standings in the BCHL after third weekend of regular season play, along with the Top 20 scoring leaders and goalies.

The Coquitlam Express caught up to the Chilliwack Chiefs on the weekend, and now both teams have league’s best winning records, with seven wins in ten games.

Another Mainland division team, Prince George Spruce Kings, is just single point back however, with a game in hand, and a slightly better .722 winning percentage.

On the Island, the Victoria Grizzlies are out in front after nine games with a 6-3-0-0 record, but again, another team, Powell River Kings are posting a better, .714 win percentage, with a 5-2-0-0 record and two games in hand. The two teams have already separated themselves from the rest of the pack by a significant margin.

It’s a much different story in the Interior, where it’s simply tight-tight-tight.

Four teams are tied for first place with identical 5-4-0 records, and 10 points each. Trail is a point back. The remaining three teams are two points back of the leaders.

Scoring Leaders:

After the weekend, only three points separate the Top 20 offensive leaders.

Four players are tied at the top of the scoring leaderboard.  WK’s Willie Reim, Penticton’s David Silye, Merritt’s Bradley Cocca and Surrey’s Ty Westgard are all posting 13 points.

Westgard, from Surrey, along with North Vancouver’s Justin Wilson (12 points – Salmon Arm), Duncan’s Ben Berard (11 points, Powell River) and Abbotsford’s Marrison Blaisell (10 points – Chilliwack), are the only BC natives in the Top 20.

Top ‘Tenders:

Three goalies are duking it out for top ‘tender honours.

At the moment, Coquitlam’s Kolby Matthews leads in goals against average, at 1.67 after six games, with a .947 save percentage.

Victoria’s Kurtis Chapman has the league’s best save percentage, an even stingier .949, along with an impressive 1.85 GAA. Chapman has logged the most time, 518 minutes.

PG’s Logan Neaton, remains unbeaten and the only net-minder without a loss, is at .931 and 1.97 GAA.
