BCMML – Final Weekend – promises lots of excitement

in regular season

March 8, 2019

The BCMML is entering its final weekend of regular season play Saturday, and it looks like there is lots of excitement in store.

The top 3 teams are essentially neck in neck going into the weekend. The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds are tied with the North East Chiefs at 56 points each, while the Cariboo Cougars trail by one point.

So the series these teams play this weekend will be key to determining the final standings and playoff matchups.

Here’s a quick look at what’s on tap in these three series, featuring five of the top six teams:

#1 Fraser Valley vs #10 North Island – at Abbotsford

On paper it looks like the T-Birds should coast through their final two games. They’re playing at home in Abbotsford vs the #9 ranked North Island Silvertips. The T-birds are 25-9-1-1, 56 points, while the Tips are almost the opposite, at 9-29-0-0, with 18 points.

They met last on December 1 and 2 on in Nanaimo, with the Birds winning 7-4 and 10-0.

Game 1 is starts at 7:30 PM Saturday, at MSA Arena; game 2 starts at 9:45 Sunday at Abbotsford Recreation Centre.

#2 Vancouver North East vs #5 Thompson – at 8-Rinks

The North East Chiefs face off against #5 Thompson for two games at 8 Rinks in Burnaby.

The teams split last time they met, in Kamloops December 1-2. The Blazers won the first one 5-4; the visiting Chiefs prevailed 6-3 in game two.

Thompson are coming off two huge wins last weekend at home in Kamloops vs the #1 T-birds. The Blazers won the first 5-3 and the second one 3-2.

The Blazers are 7-2-1 in the their last ten games, with 48GF vs 26GA. Thompson is being lead by the league’s top scorer, Logan Stankoven. He is leading the league by 33 points (48G, 48A, 96 points).

North East are 8-2-0 in their last ten, with 46GF vs 24 GA.

Game one starts Saturday, at 4:30 PM; game two at 11:30 AM on Sunday.

#3 Cariboo Cougars vs #6 North West Hawks, at NSWC

The Cariboo Cougars play their final series at North Shore Winter Club vs the North West Hawks Saturday and Sunday.

The Cougars are 8-2-0 in their last ten games, losing once to OK Rockets 2-1 and to South Island 3-2. They’re 49GF vs 14GA over the period, and are backed by Xavier Cannon who has the leagues lowest GAA, at 2.12; and Devin Chapman who is third, at 2.34.

The North West Hawks are 6-4-0 over their last ten, with a 33GF vs 30 GA record.

In their previous matchups, December 1 and 2 in Prince George, the Cougars won 4-2 and 8-2.
