BCMML – Week 10 – T-Birds still on top; Chiefs, Cougars & Rockets pressing

in regular season

November 27, 2018

Two weeks have passed since our last look at the BCMML, and although not a lot has changed over the period, the competition is heating up.

Fraser Valley stay on Top

The same teams are in the Top 5, and although #1 Fraser Valley T-Birds have stretched it out a bit, it’s still a very tight grouping.

The T-Birds lead two teams – NE Chiefs and Cariboo Cougars, by four points, after going 3-1-0-0 over the past two weeks. Two weeks ago they were up by two points. The T-Birds have led the league since Week 4.

Both the Chiefs and the Cougars – tied with 21 points – moved ahead of the OK Rockets, who held down the #2 spot two weeks ago.

The Chiefs played just two games over the period, posting a couple of wins over last place Kootenay, 6-4 and 9-0, two weeks ago.

The Cougars are technically in the #3 spot, though tied in points with the Chiefs, due to posting one more OTL rather than a SOL.

Rockets drop to #4

The Okanagan Rockets fell into the #4 spot, after also playing two tough contests on home ice vs the visiting NW Hawks this past weekend. The first game ended in 3-2 in a shootout loss, the second was a 2-1 win, to deliver three of four points to the home team. The Rockets had the bye two weeks ago.

Thompson have maintained their #5 ranking, two points back of the Rockets, after going 2W-2L.

# 6 GVC and #7 NW Hawks are hammering on the door for a Top 5 entry. GVC are just a point back of Thompson and Hawks are two back.

All of the top seven have played 18 games to date.

#8 Valley West Giants are the lone team at the moment with additional games under their belt, with 20 GP. They remain in the #8 spot however, with 17 points, three back of the Hawks.

The remaining three teams are all struggling to post wins. In 18 games, the South Island Royals have put up nine points, while the North Island Silvertips have eight, and the Kootenay Ice have seven.

Other Stats:

The Okanagan Rockets continue to lead in the most goals so far with 87 in 18 games, and have four players in the Top 12. The Blazers and T-Birds are right behind them with 84 GF.

The Blazers Logan Stankoven leads the league scoring by a wide margin, posting 26GF-20A-46, in 18 games. The NW Hawks Tyler Cristall has moved up four spots from a couple of weeks ago, and holds down the the #2 spot, with 18G-11A, 29 pts. Just two points separate the next nine players.

The Cougars have the fewest goals against, at 44. The T-Birds are next with 45. Surprisingly perhaps, #6 GVC have given up just 47, along with the #2 Chiefs.

The Cougars Xavier Cannon leads the goalie ranks with the lowest GAA at 1.64. The T-Birds Kevin Craig is #2 with 1.71, followed by the NE Chiefs Logan Terness at 1.75. All three have just one regular time loss so far.

The Vancouver NW Hawks have taken over the Lady Byng race with just 203 PIMs. The Rockets are next with 252.

League scoring leader Logan Stankoven has just six PIM, while #5 Jake McLean has just four.

On the flip side of the coin, #8 VW Giants are now up to 471 PIM – still worst in the league, while #11 Kootenay presses with 467 on the frustration scale.
