The two top ranked BC teams entering the 51st Annual Burnaby Minor Bantam Christmas tourney faced off in the gold medal final game Tuesday afternoon, and what a final it was.
The Seafair Islanders jumped out to 3-0 lead and seemed to have the game in control, before BWC Bruins battled back to even the score at the end of regulation.
The teams battled hard into the second overtime period before BWC’s Tyler Preziuso got the winner.
Both teams reached the finals with perfect 5-0 records.
BWC defeated Arizona 4-0 in the opener, San Diego 6-0 in game 2, and Alaska Aces 5-0 on Saturday, then defeated Burnaby Minor 8-0 in the quarters , and Arizona 8-1 in the semis yesterday.
Seafair downed San Diego 6-0, and Arizona 2-0 Friday, and Cowichan Valley 5-2 on Saturday, then defeated Surrey 9-3 in the quarters and San Diego 5-2 in the semis.
BWC is in second place in PCHAHA league play with a record of 11-0-1 (tie against NSWC); Seafair is in third place with a 10-2-0 record (losses against BWC and Langley), and are the only team to beat NSWC in league play so far this year.
Arizona and San Diego played for bronze.
