The BWC Bantam A1 team went 6-0-0 at this year’s Tier 1 Bantam Provincial Championship, to a complete a perfect season at 36-0-0.

The Bruins downed winless Nanaimo 15-0 in their final round robin game at 8:00 AM Wednesday morning, and then shutout Thompson Zone 6-0 in the final Wednesday evening.

Thompson had downed North Zone 5-1 in their final round robin game at 1:30 PM Wednesday, to advance to the evening final. Thompson finished with a 3-2-0 round robin record, same as North Zone but won the honors on the head to head win.

BWC had edged Thompson 5-4 in the third game of the round robin, one of two provincial playoff games they won by a single goal. The other was in game two vs Burnaby Minor, 4-3.

But it was a different story in the final game.

After a scoreless first period, Kalen Szeto scored the first of his three on the night, less than a minute into the period. Assists went to Trevor Wong and Kyler Kovich.

Five minutes later, team captain Ryan Helliwell scored on a powerplay, Kovich and Szeto assisted.

The Bruins would score two more in quick succession midway through the period, to take a 4-0 lead into the final frame.

Two goals early in the third finished the scoring, 6-0 final.

Shots were 43-15 BWC.

The Bruins were 20-0-0 in the regular season, scoring 118 GF – 18 GA, then 6-0-0, 42 GF – 3 GA in the PCAHA playoffs, and 6-0-0, 37 GF – 9 GA in the Provincials, to finish the season 36-0-0, 197 GF – 30 GA.

This year’s banner is the second in a row for the Bruins. They downed NSWC 3-0 in the final last year.

In the ten years since the 2006-2007 season, BWC and NSWC have won five titles each. BWC have finished second four times. The Bruins failed to reach the final only once in the ten year span, in 2014-2015, when losing to eventual champ NSWC and finalist Victoria Racquet Club in the round robin.
