It was a winning weekend for both of BWC’s Academy teams. The Everett Jr. Silvertips, a U-17 squad, made the trip across the border to Burnaby for two exhibition games, first taking on the E15’s on Saturday and then the U-18’s on Sunday.
BWC’s E15’s skated to a 6-4 win over the Americans, extending their winning streak in all competitions to 26. BWC raced out to a 4-0 lead but the Silvertips rallied and narrowed the score to 4-3 halfway through the second. Two more BWC goals in the middle period opened a 6-3 lead going into the third.
Everett added a fourth goal in the final period but wouldn’t get any closer than that.
Nolan Welsh scored twice while Jonathan Stein, Sho Takai, Evan Walls, and Mack Gray each had one. Goaltenders Kolby Matthews and Zakery Myrowich split the game in net, both making 13 saves.
Two goals from Keyvan Mokhtari and Brady Chin paced the U-18’s to a 5-1 win against the Silvertips the following day. Jackson Jong Min Lee also scored in the victory. Nico Lopes was between the pipes for BWC and stopped 21 shots.
Up next for the E15’s is a game against DHA on Saturday, January 17. The U-18’s travel to Kelowna for a three-game showcase weekend where they’ll take on OHA Red on Friday, January 16, Compete on Saturday, January 17, and OHA White on Sunday, January 19.
