The slogan, Where Tradition Inspires Excellence has long been a mantra at the Burnaby Winter Club. But this year the club is taking the slogan to a whole new level.

General Manager Len McNeely says its very satisfying to see so many former players returning as adults with family, and volunteering as coaches and assistant coaches to provide the new crop of youngsters with expert hockey instruction and coaching.

No fewer than fifteen alumni are part of this year’s coaching program.

McNeely also points out that many of the high profile team coaches also lend their expertise to coach or assistant coach teams further down the development ladder, further underscoring the meaning of the motto.

Alumni working behind the benches this year include:

Hockey 3 – Doug MacDonald, (NHL), head coach; along with Steve Vanoosten

Hockey 4 – Stefano Ruscitti, head coach; and assistant Alex Coletta (C1); Johnny Mahovlich, head coach (C2); and Jon Calvano, head coach (C3).

Atom – again, Stefano Ruscitti, assistant coach A1; Johnny Mahovlich, Assistant Coach A2; Kyle Rademaker, Head Coach, A3 and Joel Jeffrey, Assistant Coach A4.

Peewee – Peter Bogdanich, Assistant Coach A1; Bill Hunt, Head Coach A2; David Boyce, Assistant Coach A2; David Boyce Head Coach A3, Bill Hunt Assistant Coach A3; Kim Sinclair Head Coach A4 and Bryan Sinclair, Assistant Coach A4.

In a similar developmental vein, Peewee A1 head coach Brad Reynolds will pitch in to coach the Hockey 2, C1 team. Reynolds also runs the Inside Edge Hockey Development organization which provides development programs for the majority of BWC teams. Meanwhile Peewee A2 head coach Bill Hunt will also provide assistant coaching help to David Boyce’s Peewee A3 team.
