BWC Atom A2 – leading GVC F2 – A3 battling for 2nd

in regular season

December 2, 2018

As noted in our Atom A1 report earlier, there have been some changes to the atom league structure in the PCAHA this year.  Last year, the top three BWC Atom teams all played in top Flight of the GVC Atom conference. This year Flight 1 from GVC and the Fraser Valley have been combined for the first time, with only A1 teams in the 8 team division.

Traditionally, the league has re-evaluated each Flight at the Christmas break, and moved teams that are struggling, down to a lower Flight for the second half of the regular season. Strong teams in lower flights are then moved up to replace them. Given the strong play of both the BWC Atom A2 and Atom A3 teams in the first half of their regular season play, there is a possibility one or both teams could be moved up into PCAHA Flight 1 (Super-League), for the remaining regular season league games after the Christmas break.

BWC Atom A2 – First Place – GVC Flight 2

Burnaby Winter Club A2 has dominated play in the Greater Vancouver Conference of Flight 2 Atom play so far.

Through their first nine games, the Bruins are 8-0-1, tallying a league leading average of 9.4 goals per game, outscoring opponents 85-19.  Their only glitch so far, a 5-5 tie vs fellow BWC A3s, who are also playing well.

BWC A2 league play to date:

Game four vs the New Westminster Atom A1, was 14-3., with another sportsmanship point.

BWC A2 competed against the Burnaby Atom A1 in their fifth and sixth games. The first game was 8-3 favouring BWC A2, while the second finished 12-1. BWC A2 recorded a Sportsmanship Point in the second of the matchups.

Their seventh game game was against fellow Burnaby Winter Club A3s. It was a hard fought game, ending in a 5-5 tie.

BWC Atom 3 – 4th Place – GVC Flight 2 – battling for #2 spot

BWC Atom A3 are the only team that has not lost so far to the league leading BWC Atom A2s in GVC Flight 2.

In their first meeting November 25, the A3s tied the A2s, 5-5. However, in the rematch, played this past weekend (originally scheduled for Dec. 5), the A3s lost 9-1.

If not for their lack of sportsmanship points, the A3s could be in second place in the Flight, ahead of the Vancouver T-Birds who are 6-0-1, with 6 sportsmanship points; two points up on the A3s.

The A3s will have their chance to change that though – and very soon –  as they face off vs the T-Birds in their next game Saturday, December 9 at BWC, 2:15 PM.

Richmond Jets A2, are also two points up on the A3s, in third place with 5W-3L-0T, and 8 sportsmanship points.

And again, that too could change before year end, as the A3s will play the A2 Jets at Minoru, Saturday, December 15.

The A3s will wrap 2018 regular season play with a game at home on December 16 vs the Richmond A3 Jets and then vs New West A1  on December 18 at Queens Park Arena.

BWC Atom A3 regular season record: 6W-1L-1T, 3 Spts, 16 points, currently 4th place.
