After 16 regular season games, BWC remain in sixth place of the CSSHL Bantam Prep division, after posting a 5-3-0 record to start the season, and improving slightly to 5-2-1 over their last eight games.
But standings don’t always tell the real story, and after their success this past weekend, BWC has proven it is among the elite teams in the division.
The club went 3-1-0 at the River Cree Showcase in Edmonton. They lost only to first place Rink – in a seven man 4-3 shootout, and handed the top two Alberta teams rare losses.
After the shootout Saturday morning, BWC downed OHA Edmonton 4-3 in the evening, handing them their first loss of the year.
On Sunday morning, they defeated host Northern Alberta 7-2 – just the second loss of the season for NAX.
BWC had opened their weekend Friday afternoon with 6-2 decision over winless Edge Academy from Calgary.
BWC is now only one win behind the next three teams ahead of them, two back of second place Okanagan and three wins back of Rink Academy.
Another big Showcase coming up
This coming weekend will be huge for BWC, and for Delta, as the top two Alberta teams travel to the Lower Mainland for a Showcase hosted by Delta at Planet Ice.
After opening against 0-12-0 Edge Friday afternoon, BWC will face NAX (11-2-0) early Saturday morning (7:30 am), and then OHA Edmonton (10-1-0) at 1:05 pm. They will wrap with a 1:55 pm game Sunday vs Notre Dame (1-12-1).
Third place Delta Green will open vs Notre Dame on Friday, and then face OHA Edmonton Saturday at 8:00 am and NAX at 1:10 pm, before wrapping up 2017 vs Edge on Sunday.
Yale, who have only lost one game this year, are not playing at the Delta Showcase. They’ll travel to SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, the following weekend, December 14-17 for four games; vs Shawnigan, Pacific Coast, Notre Dame and Rink.
Yale will meet the top Alberta teams in late January, at the Edge School Showcase in Calgary.
BWC finished the second half of November with a 10-0 win over Pacific Coast; then lost two tough battles – 4-2 vs Yale, and 1-0 vs Delta Green, before finishing with a 7-1 win over Delta White.
So stay tuned!
