ASSOCIATION REPORT – BANTAM PLACEMENT ROUND

BWC Bantam A1- Group 1

The BWC A1 and NSWC A1s are both undefeated as the placement round for the top bantam group in the Greater Vancouver area heads into the final weekend. That will likely change Saturday, when the two teams match up at BWC.

The Bruins are 5-0-0 and have put up 45 GF vs just 6 GA; while the Winterhawks are 6-0-0 with 43 GF and 8 GA.

The two teams met in a testy exhibition match a few weeks ago, in a game that the Winterhawks won 3-2 in the final minute.

So the Saturday game, 5:30 pm at BWC, will likely be an intense, closely contested affair, with the winner claiming the #1 bantam ranking in BC afterwards.

At the moment North Shore are in first place with 17 points, while the Bruins, with a game in hand, are three points back.

Abbotsford A1 are tied with the Bruins, with 14 points, on a 4-2-0 record and six sporties, but lost to the Bruins 12-2 on Oct 6 in an early placement round contest.

Two shutouts; against Coquitlam, 9-0 and Seafair 7-0, and a 4-1 win over the Vancouver T-Birds demonstrate that the Bruins have a solid D and goaltending to match their offensive fire power.

The team is just back from a trip to South Bend, Indiana, where they participated in a tournament at Notre Dame that pitted them against the top super clubs in the USA, including #1 Chicago Mission (6-2 L), #2 Honeybaked (4-0 L), #4 Compuware (1-1), #7 Boston Jr. Eagles (2-1 W) and #8 LA Kings (3-1 L).

Team management feels the competition against the best American teams has prepared the team well for the start of the regular season and upcoming Medicine Hat tournament against the top teams in Western Canada.

The Vancouver T-Bids are also 4-2-0 but with just 4 sporties, are two points behind Abbotsford in 4th place.

After the T-Birds, three teams are grouped closely together with losing records, Langley 2-4-1, Seafair 2-5-0, and Hollyburn at 2-4-0.

Coquitlam at 0-5-2 and Semiahmoo at 1-4-1 round out the group, at the 8 and 9 spots, and could be moved to Group 2 for the regular season.

BWC Bantam A2- Group 2

The BWC A2 bantams are currently in seventh place in Group 2, with a record of 2-4-1, 22 GF and 35 GA, after seven games. The wins came against #9 Surrey (4-2) and #7 South Delta (5-4), while the losses have been at the hands of #2 Richmond A1 (8-3), #1 Ridge Meadows A1 (4-0), #3 Cloverdale A1 (9-3) and #8 Langley A2 (3-2).

The team will play #5 North Shore Winterclub on Saturday. The Winterhawks are 4-2, and if they finish with two wins and two sporties, could tie Ridge Meadows A1 who have finished their placement round at 6-2-0, and 18 points.  The Winterhawks finish up with a tough matchup against Cloverdale on Monday.

Richmond A1 at 6-0-1 and 32 GF7 GA, have a game to play, against last place Surrey, and will likely put up 3 more points, which would clinch top spot for them, with 20 points, and likely mean a move to Group 1 for the regular season.

Ridge Meadows, who lost 3-1 to Richmond and 2-0 Cloverdale, are on the bubble, and could remain in Group 2.

Cloverdale, at 4-1-1,  22GF -13 GA meanwhile, have been in five very tight games, winning four and losing one, mostly by one goal margins, their only blowout being a 9-3 thumping of the Bruins. They’ll finish with a game against Surrey (2-5-0)  on Sunday and then against North Shore (4-2) on Monday. Despite their winning record, the team will likely remain in Group 2, due to the tight margins.

South Delta at 2-5-0 is hanging in, with close games in all contests except a 7-1 loss to Ridge in their last outing. Langley A2 1-6-0 and Surrey 1-5-0 are in the final two spots and will likely be regrouped.

BWC Bantam A3 – Group 6

The BWC A3s are 1-4-1, 10 GF 30 GA, in Group 6, suffering two close losses, 4-2 to Semiahmoo A3 and 2-1 to Aldergrove A1, along with two not so close contests, 11-5 vs Squamish A1 and 7-3 to Abby A3. Their lone win was a 7-5 victory over Hollyburn A2, and their tie, 1-1 vs West Van A1.

The rough start has placed the team in 8th spot, two points ahead of the last place Burnaby A2s who are 0-5-1.

At the top of the group are two A1 teams, Squamish A1-T3 at 5-1-1 and Aldergrove A1-T2 at 5-1-0. In third spot are Semiahmoo A3-T3 with a 5-3-0 record, followed by Hollyburn A2s at 4-2-1 and Van TBirds A3-T3 at 3-3. West Van A1 at 2-3-1 and Abbotsford at 1-4-1 are currently in the 6 and 7 spots.
