BWC’s three bantam rep teams are all doing well as week 4 of the regular season comes to a close.
The A1 team, consistently at top of western Canadian bantam rep hockey, is in a neck in neck contest with NSWC for top ranking in Western Canada. The A2s, a young team, with a majority of first year players, could finish at the top of Flight 2 by Christmas. And the A3s continue to make progress in Flight 5, and could press for a Final 4 spot in January.
Team by team reports:
BWC Bantam A1:
The Bantam A1 Bruins continue to play very well, tying arch rival NSWC 3-3 on Dec 6 to remain within three points of the first place Winterhawks in PCAHA regular season play. The Bruins have a game in hand, and have posted an impressive regular season offensive output of 47 goals, against a very stingy 5 goals against – only 2 against in the six games outside the NSWC game.
The Bruins are currently ranked second in Western Canada, right behind NSWC, and ahead of South Side Athletic Club, last year’s Western champions.
The Friday night game against North Shore proves the team is ready to take on the rest of the best at the next major gathering of bantam power, at the St. Albert tournament in mid-January.
As the game against the Winterhawks proved, if the Bruins can avoid offensive zone penalties, they’ll be very hard to beat.
The team will play five more regular season games before the Christmas Break, and then participate in the Burnaby Minor tournament over the holidays.
BWC Bantam A2
The A2 Bantam Bruins are a young team and are doing very well in Flight 2, with an unbeaten record of 5-0-1, placing them in third place behind Ridge Meadows and Chilliwack. The Bruins however, have three games in hand, and have already tied Chilliwack and beaten RM.
The team plays Burnaby (1-4-2) twice before Christmas, along with Langley A2 (1-5-1), and Mission (4-2-0) so have a legitimate shot at finishing in first place going into the New Year.
The BWC A3s are playing .500 hockey in Flight 5 and currently sit in 5th place. The team has lost 3 games, all to teams above them in the standings. The Bruins handed third place Semi their only loss of the season so far, and lost to fourth place Seafair by a single goal, so the team is consistent, and could definitely move up before the Christmas break, and then compete for a Final 4 spot in the stretch run.
