BURNABY, BC – Jack McIntosh (North Vancouver) had the 5-4 shootout winner as the BWC Academy E15s overcame a determined Pacific Coast Academy team on Saturday afternoon.
Burnaby (12-5-2) led 3-1 after 40 minutes before Pacific Coast (7-12-2) came storming back to take a the lead with three goals in the first 7:29 of the final frame.
Ryan Stack (West Vancouver) evened it up though, with just over four minutes left, with his second of the afternoon on a nice set up from Christian Buono (Burnaby), send the game into overtime tied 4-4.
OT finished with no scoring to set up the shootout.
Pacific Coast shot first but were stymied by Jonathan Holloway (Coquitlam).
Stack, with two goals already under his belt, led for BWC, but was stopped by Jaden Little (Nanaimo). Holloway then blocked the second Sea Devils shooter.
Buono, who had scored BWC’s second goal and assisted on both Stack goals and BWC’s first by Grayson Bush (Gibsons) shot next and buried it to put BWC up by one.
That made it a must score for the Devil’s Lucas Jirousek (Whitehore, YK), and he came through. McIntosh then scored as the BWC’s third shooter to end the excitement.
Buono finished with a four-point afternoon, scoring once and adding three helpers, while Grayson Bush (Gibsons, BC) would also find the back of the net for Burnaby.
Damian Rennie (Campbell River, BC) scored three times and assisted on one other for Pacific Coast, while Jacob Gosling added his third of the season.
Jonathan Holloway (Coquitlam, BC) earned his seventh win of the season in goal, making 15 stops on the day.
Jaden Little (Nanaimo, BC) made 33 saves in the Pacific Coast crease.
The Sea Devils then headed to Delta for their second game of the afternoon, to face the Delta Academy a few hours later.
A problem with ice scheduling had lead to the rare double-header – the first game vs BWC was initially scheduled for Sunday.

The Sea Devils were in tough against a streaking Delta team, besides running on fumes, and were downed 5-2.
Ethan Scardina (South Surrey, Everett Silvertips) scored twice for Delta and setup another in the win, which was Delta’s fourth straight.
Mackenzie Merriman (White Rock) finished with a goal and two helpers on the day for Delta (13-4-2), while Hunor Torzsok (Surrey) added one goal and one assist.
Brennan Nelson (Invermere) and Lukas Jirousek (Whitehorse) provided the offence for Pacific Coast (7-13-2), which got 29 saves from Austin Dendl (Nanaimo).
Jacob Bakken (Surrey, BC) picked up the win in net, making 18 saves for Delta, while Tanner Hopps rounded out the scoring with his 12th of the season.
