Delta Hockey Academy E15 extended its four game winning streak with a 4-2 win over Seattle U16 in the gold medal game at Planet Ice in Coquitlam on Sunday.
Delta outshot Seattle by close to a 2-1 margin enroute to the win.
Seattle had finished in second place in the six team tourney by virtue of its 2-2-0 record in the round robin.
Host BWC E15 outshot both Delta and Seattle in their round robin games, but couldn’t overcome stellar goal-tending from both clubs, losing 3-1 to Delta in the opening game, and then tying Seattle 2-2 with a late goal in game 1 of day two.
BWC finished with a 2-1-1 record, as did Yale Academy E15s, however Yale were seeded higher, in third place, due to a better goals for and against differential. Yale also lost to Delta, 4-2, and tied Seattle, 3-3, in the preliminary round.
So the two medal game match ups were pretty much everything tournament organizers could have hoped for.
Unfortunately for host BWC, the Yale game proved to be all too similar to the earlier Delta and Seattle games, with BWC unable to solve the Yale goaltender, Mathieu Caron, despite a furious first period where BWC threw 16 shots on net.
Yale took the lead against the play in early the first, then scored two quick goals just before the half time ice clean, to take the momentum away from BWC and secure the win.
Connor Jollymore, Dylan Stoltz and Jayden Sander scored for Yale.
The two teams will face off again next Saturday in the official league opener at noon at Abbotsford Center, in what promises to be a competitive rematch.
