The BWC E15s went to war this weekend against their crosstown rival Delta Hockey Academy, with the aim of moving into a second place tie with Delta and the Edge in the CSSHL standings with a win. But it wasn’t to be, as Delta closed out with an empty netter, 3-1, in a close contest.

Christian Buono opened the scoring for BWC with a powerplay marker with 13:24 left in the first period as Delta’s Ryan Piva sat in the penalty box for two minutes after his second head contact penalty of the game.

In the 2nd period, Piva would turn his attention to the offensive side of the game as he fired the puck by BWC goaltender Nicholas Lee to tie the game at 1-1. With 8:36 left in the period, Tanner Hopps connected with Pearce Messer who was able to get the puck by Lee to give Delta their first lead of the game.

In the 3rd period, the dreaded Hopps-Messer duo connected again, with Hopps scoring the empty netter to secure the victory for Delta and open up a four point lead on BWC.

BWC now heads in to the holiday break in fourth place in the CSSHL standings, four points behind Delta and Edge who are in a tie for 2nd, and 5 points behind Northern Alberta for first in the CSSHL.
