The BWC Elite 15 will host its third annual Ice Breaker tournament September 11-13, featuring six BC teams from the Canadian Sports School Hockey League and two US based U16 teams.
This year’s tournament is ditching the showcase style format, and will be naming a tournament champion on Sunday.
Each team will play four games against teams in the opposite pool, with the top two teams then playing a single gold medal game, and the three and four teams playing for Bronze. Teams five through eight will play consolation games.
Host BWC are in Pool 1 along with Yale Academy, OHA E15 and OHA Varsity.
Pool 2 includes the Delta Hockey Academy, which was home to BC’s top bantam squad last year, along with the Pacific Coast Academy E15s (Victoria), the Seattle Sno-Kings U16 and the Everett Jr. Silvertips U16.
The Silvertips play in the NAPHL (North American Prospects League – along with PoE U16s and teams from across the USA).
Yale, Delta, PCHA, and OHA all return to the Ice breaker for the third year in a row. Also entering the tournament are Jason Becker’s OHA varsity team.
Games will be held at Planet Ice Coquitlam and Great Pacific Forum in Delta.
Puck drop for games one and two is 8:00 am Friday morning, at Planet Ice, featuring Yale vs Seattle, and BWC vs Delta. OHA and Pacific Coast get underway at 8:15 with OHA Varsity and Everett facing off at 10:15.
Teams will each play two games Friday and Saturday and a single game Sunday.
The gold and bronze medal games go at 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon at Planet Ice.
Only the Saturday morning games will be on GPF ice (8:00 am through 9:00 am starts).
