CSSHL Midget Prep Team Report

In what would be the final game of their season, BWC Midget overcame a thrilling third period comeback by OHA Red, to score a 5-4 overtime win, and improve their round one playoff record to 1W-1OTW.

The game got underway at 12:45 PM Thursday afternoon in Summerland – and by the time it was over – all minor hockey in British Columbia had been cancelled due to fears of spreading the Corona-Virus.

In spite of being outshot 15-7, goals from Rocco La Cara and Ty Gagno opened a 2-0 lead for BWC after the first.

In the second period, both teams scored a pair of goals, and BWC maintained a two goal lead going into the third.

OHA’s Tyson Zimmer got the first one about five minutes into the second, but it was quickly answered by Gagno’s second, on the power play.

Just 47 seconds later OHA replied, on a marker from Ashton Taylor. But again another quick goal, just over a minute later, by Tyler Schweitzer, restored BWC’s two goal lead, 4-2 end of two.

Again OHA held the lead on the shot clock in the period, 14-9.

There was no more scoring until just after the mid-way point of the third, when OHA’s Taylor scored again, to pull his team within one.

Then, as the final seconds ticked down, and the goaltender pulled for the extra man, OHA’s Zimmer notched his second, to force OT, with just eight seconds left in regular time.

Again OHA held a big advantage on the shot clock in the period, 11-4, to make it 40-20 after 60 minutes.

In the OT, BWC’s Brandon Lisowsky ended the OHA rally, and propelled BWC forward, at the 2:23 mark of OT.

It was the only goal scored on OHA’s Jovan Kheleh who had relieved the starter after BWC’s fourth goal midway through the second.

Tanner Johnson got the win, stopping 37 of 41.

With the win, BWC finished with 5 points, in second place, behind Northern Alberta Extreme, who opened with a pair round one regular time wins, and 6 points.

NAX had downed OHA Red 6-1 in their opener, and then mounted a four goal third period to edge Pursuit 8-6 in a game that got underway at 1:15 PM Thursday.

After two, POE had lead 5-3.

BWC had shutout PoE 4-0 in their opener on Tuesday.
