BWC Peewee A1 2014 Old Quebec

The BWC Peewee A1 Bruins came up short vs the New York Rangers Friday afternoon in their quarter-final game at the Quebec Peewee Tournament, and are now out of contention for the championship.

Both teams battled to a scoreless draw through two and a half periods, until the Rangers finally scored with six minutes left in the game, to take a 1-0 lead into the closing minutes.

An empty-netter sealed the game, after Bruins tender Aiden Taylor left the net for the extra attacker, final 2-0.

The Bruins fired 21 shots at Rangers goalie Spencer Knight vs 23 by the Rangers.

After the game head coach Brad Reynolds praised his team for their efforts.

“We came against a hot goalie and very good team in the New Rangers.”

The Bruins won their first two games in the 16 team AAA division defeating Detroit Red Wings (Little Caesars North) ranked #3 in the USA, in game one, 2-1 on Sunday, and the Buffalo Jr Sabres, 2-1 on Wednesday.

A win against the Rangers would have put the Bruins into the A side semi-final vs New Jersey Devils, with the winner advancing to the Championship game.

The prestigious tournament, now in its 55th year, attracts top teams from across Canada, the United States and Europe, and is very difficult to win, due to the single knockout format after game 1.

The Bruins, along with the Seafair Islanders and the North Shore Winter Club, the three top teams in the PCAHA AAA division, represented BC at the tournament this year in the AAA division.

North Shore dropped their first two games, 4-0 to Pittsburgh Penguins and 2-0 to Whitby Wildcats. Seafair lost their first game 3-2 in a shootout to Sherbrooke Phoenix, roared back with a 7-0 victory over the Boston Bandits, and then lost another heartbreaker in a shootout, 2-1 to the LA Kings Thursday.

The BC teams will close out the weekend with exhibition games and return home Sunday night, resuming playing in the PCAHA playoffs next week. All three teams have already advanced to the PCAHA Final 4, and are awaiting the outcome of the fourth and deciding game between Langley and Cloverdale, which will be decided Saturday evening.
