Like the BWC Bantam A1 teams, the BWC Peewee A1s have been the team to beat most years. This year there is a new challenger, Seafair, who handed the Bruins an uncharacteristic 7-4 loss on Monday.
As noted in another Hockey Hub story on the game, BWC Head Coach Brad Reynolds welcomes the competition and is looking forward to future contests with the team.
Seafair currently sits in first place in the placement round at 5-0-0.
The A1s are only at the half way point, with 4 games under their belt. In their first three games, the Bruins posted big margin wins against Abbotsford (11-3), Cloverdale (7-2) and Coquitlam (12-0). Tougher contests are in store for the next few games, including games against NSWC and Langley, two clubs that are typically in the top 4.
The team is currently in sixth place in the placement round, with 8 points, two points behind Cloverdale who have played two more games, and a point behind three teams tied for third place: Abby who have played two more, Langley who have played one more and NSWC at 2-1-1. So with four games to go, it’s likely to the Bruins will move up into second place – though Langley and NSWC will be playing hard to prevent it.
BWC Bantam A2 – Flight 2 (for now), First place.
The A2s on the other hand, have yet to feel any heat, and it looks like the Bill Hunt coached squad will be facing their A1 clubmates when the regular season starts. The team is one of two dominant teams in the group, posting 30 GF vs just 3 GA against in five games, including two shut outs. Hollyburn A1 are also blasting the competition, with 32 GF vs 7 GA in just four games. The two teams have yet to meet each other – that will happen Tuesday, Oct 29. Expect both teams to move to Flight 1. At the moment Van T-Birds A1 (0-5) looking like they’ll be coming down.
BWC Peewee A3 – Flight 3 – T4th of 9
The BWC A3s are currently tied for 4th with Chilliwack A1, at 9 points, despite the fact the team as won only one game in six starts. The difference, 5 sportsmanship points. And the fact undefeated Chilliwack has two games in hand. Despite the lack of wins, the team is playing competitive hockey – it has posted two ties against North Van A1 and Langley A2, and lost to Vancouver A1 but just one goal. The only blemish so far has been the 11-1 shake-n-bake in the opening game against Chilliwack. And it’s possible once the dust settles at the end of the round, that Chilliwack will be moved up a flight; leaving the Bruins in contention for top honors in Flight 3 once the regular season starts.
