BWC Peewee Report

 

Peewee A1-T1,  5-0-1, 1st place, Group 1

 

The Burnaby Winter Club Peewee A1 have continued their torrid pace to start the year, adding three more wins in the placement round this past week.

They remain undefeated at 5-0-1, in addition to posting a Gold Medal finish at the BWC PeeWee AAA Showcase over the Thanksgiving weekend, at the beginning of the month.

In their fourth placement game a week ago Tuesday (Oct 16), BWC outpaced Surrey Peewee A1, 7-2. They did not take a single penalty in this game.

Game 5, vs Cloverdale Peewee A1, finished 11- 1.

In their most recent game, BWC A1 competed against their A2 Club, edging fellow Bruins, 4-2.

The team has collected a Sportsmanship Point in each game so far, and has earned 17 of a possible 18 points to date.

Their next game will be at the Hillcrest Centre Arena, against the Vancouver Thunderbird Peewee A1, on Monday, October 29, at 6:45.

The team will wrap the placement round the following evening at home vs arch-rival North Shore Winter Club –  at 7:30 PM.

NSWC are also currently undefeated, at 5-0-0, but the Winterhawks have lost sportsmanship points in two games and have 56 minutes in penalties, vs 28 by the Bruins.

Semiahoo A1, who tied BWC A1 on October 10, are in second place with a 4-1-1 record, one point up on NSWC, who have a game in hand.

 

Peewee A2 – Staying Disciplined in Group 1 – Means Staying in T1

 

The Burnaby Winter Club Peewee A2 have now wrapped up their eight game placement round, finishing with 2-5-1-7 spts, for 12 points, guaranteeing them a spot in PCAHA Tier 1 for the regular season.

The Tier 2 team, which consists of a backend of second year players, and a mostly grade 6 group of first year forwards, faired very well against the top A1 teams from around the Lower Mainland in the round.

In their first game, BWC squared off against the Richmond Jets Peewee A1, with the game ending 5-5.

During their second contest, BWC faced the second place Semiamhoo Peewee A1, scoring 2 goals and allowing 9. It was their only blow-out in the round.

In their third game, BWC competed against the Surrey Peewee A1, winning the game 4-1.

Their fourth game vs perennial powerhouse North Shore Winter Club Peewee A1, finished 3-1 for North Shore.

Their fifth game, played against Langley Peewee A1, was another close one, ending in a 5-3 loss. This was the only game where the A2s did not score a Sportsmanship Point.

In their sixth game, BWC played against their own BWC A1 team, currently the top ranked team. Again it was another tight one, a 4-2 loss..

Facing Vancouver Thunderbird Peewee A1 in game 6, BWC scored 4 goals, and gave up 6.

In their final placement round game vs, Cloverdale Peewee A1, the A2s recorded their second win, 6-3.

BWC A2 collected 7 out of a possible 8 Sportsmanship Points, demonstrating their ability to play a clean, competitive, disciplined game, and get the points they need to stay in Tier 1 for the regular season.

BWC last had two Peewee teams in Flight 1 in the 2016-2017 season.

BWC A2 – Off to Kamloops Tourney this weekend

 

The BWC A2 are off to Kamloops this weekend to faceoff in the Darcy Robinson Memorial Peewee Tier 1 tournament against some of the top teams in the Interior.

The team will hit the road Friday morning and play two games that day, at 3:00 PM vs Kelowna at the Mac Island Olympic rink, and then again at 7:oo PM vs Prince George downtown in the classic Memorial Arena.

They’ll meet Ridge Meadows at 10:15 Saturday morning, and Kamloops at 4:30.

The #1 vs #4 semi will be played at 7:00 AM Sunday, and the #2 vs #3 at 8:00 AM, with the Championship game at 12:30 PM.

BWC A3 – Hanging in there in Group 3

 

The Burnaby Winter Club Peewee A3’s have faced some tough competition so far, posting a 2-5-1 record in the eight game placement round. The BWC A3s, along with the Langley A3s, are the only A3 teams in Group 3, which includes four A1 teams, and four A2 teams.

BWC A3 have scored 3 or more goals in half of their games, showing that they have the firepower to compete at this level.

In their first game vs the Ridge Meadows Peewee A2, they were shut out 2-0.

In their second game, they squared off against the Cloverdale Peewee A2. The match ended in a 4-4 draw.

During their third game, BWC dominated the Seattle Junior A1, posting a 6-0 shutout.

Their fourth game was against Langley A3s, with Langley edging BWC 4-3.

In their next game came against the Coquitlam A3, they posted another solid win,  6-3.

Their next three games,, they faced the top three teams in the division, losing 7-1 to #2 North Delta A1, 6-2 to #3 Seattle Sno-King A1 and 4-2 to #1 Semiahmoo A2.

Overall, the team was outscored just 23-30, so will likely remain in Group 3 through the regular season.

BWC Peewee A4 – undefeated in Group 6

 

BWC A4 will definitely moving up. So far they’re undefeated at 7-0-0-5, and are posting 62 GF vs 9 GA in Group 6, against most A2 and A3 teams, though two A1 teams – Squamish A1 and Arbutus A1 – are also in the group.

BWC Peewee A5, 2-5-0-4 in Group 8

 

Peewee rep hockey runs deep at BWC, as BWC A5 have shown they can compete well against A2 and A3 teams, as well as an A1 team.

The A5 have posted a win against PoCo A2 and North Van A3, and lost by just one goal to Whatcom A1, and by just two to Port Moody A2, who lead the group, at 5-1-1, 6 spt.

The A5s have yet to play Vancouver A2, the #2 team at the moment, with a 4-1-1 record.
