After the first day of competition at the third annual Can-Am Super Series, a showcase tournament co-hosted by the Burnaby Winter Club and the North Shore Winter Club, the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and Okanagan Hockey Academy share first place with two wins each.
Penticton-based OHA downed the Colorado Thunderbirds 6-2 in the morning, and then Dallas Stars 5-3 in the final game of the day, to end their day with a 4 pts and a +6 GF-GA differential.
The Ducks meanwhile downed the NSWC Winterhawks 3-2 in the morning, and then Kelowna-based Pursuit of Excellence 6-3 in the afternoon.
The Winterhawks bounced back with a 4-1 win over the LA Kings to finish their day 1-1 with 2 pts and a +2 GF-GA.
BWC downed the Dallas Stars Elite 3-2, and then lost 7-3 to Colorado in their second game, for 2 pts, and a -1 GF-GA.
PoE opened with a 5-0 win over the LA Kings, then dropped the 6-3 decision to the Ducks, finishing with 2 pts and another +2 GF-GA.
The tournament is a bit of an anomaly in that the two host Winter Club teams are still in the process of determining final team rosters.
The NSWC Winterhawks are carrying 14 forwards and 8 defencemen, sitting 4 F and 2 D each game, and will trim to 10 F and 6 D after their final game Sunday.
The BWC Bruins are in a similar mode, and played 9 first years in their second game, but will not make their final picks until September 21.
Play resumes Saturday morning at 8:00 am.
