Can Team BC repeat their miracle performance from the 2011 games? After going 1-1 OTL-1 in the opening round, the team slowly gathered momentum and then scored a thrilling victory over Quebec in the gold medal game.
After opening a 4-2 lead after two, Quebec came roaring back to even the game at 4-4 with just six minutes remaining.
But then the fireworks started – on a goal from future World Junior stars Nic Petan, and two more from Curtis Lazar.
Other notables in that game: Sam Reinhart and Shea Theodore. Tender Tristan Jarry sat this one out, Jackson Whistle got the win, stopping 28 of 32 shots.
Will this year’s 99s be as good as the 95s?
We’ll know in a couple of weeks.
Team BC will start the tournament in Pool A, opening with a game against New Brunswick on February 22. They’ll close the round robin with games against Manitoba and Ontario on the 23rd and 24th.
