The Pursuit of Excellence Bantams upset Burnaby Winter Club Bruins 2-1 in the final game between the two top teams at this year’s CanAm Cup, the fourth annual bantam A1 Ice Breaker, hosted by BWC and NSWC.
BWC had dominated all comers until the final game; outscoring opponents 28-4 in the opening four games against the US pool teams: (9-1 vs San Jose, 7-0 vs Dallas, 5-1 vs POE and 7-0 vs Kelowna) before meeting PoE for a second time in the final.
PoE’s only hiccup was the 5-1 loss vs BWC in the opening round; they downed Hollyburn 3-0, OHA 4-2 and NSWC 5-4 in the other games vs the Canada pool teams.
In the bronze medal game featuring the two teams that placed second in their respective pools, the Dallas Junior Stars prevailed 5-1 over NSWC.
NSWC had won two games and notched a tie in their opening round – tieing Dallas 5-5 in the opener, downing San Jose 6-3 in game 2, edging Kelowna 3-2 in game three, before dropping game four 5-4 vs PoE.
OHA downed Kelowna 1-0 in the matchup of third place teams, while San Jose Jr. Sharks prevailed over Hollyburn 4-2 in the game between the fourth place teams.
OHA had finished the opening round with a 2-2 record – losing 3-2 vs Kelowna in game 1, and 4-2 vs POE in their second game, before rallying with two wins, 4-3 vs Dallas and 4-3 vs San Jose.
San Jose prevailed 4-2 in their final game vs Hollyburn, after finishing the opening round 0-4; while Hollyburn had finished 1-1-2 in the pool games,
