VICTORIA, BC – The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) Annual General Meeting has wrapped up after two days of meetings June 7-8 at Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa.
Longtime CSSHL executive Bill Doherty resigned as vice-chairperson after serving in the position for three seasons. Doherty, the director of the Banff Hockey Academy and one of the founding members of the CSSHL, previously held the position of CSSHL chairperson.
Andy Oakes will return as the chairperson for a fourth season and Andrew Buckham enters his second season CSSHL secretary.
“We would like to thank Bill Doherty for his all of his efforts and commitment to the CSSHL over the past eight years. His contributions to the league have been invaluable,” said Oakes.
“We are excited for the 2016-2017 season as we have made improvements within the league structure along with the additions of great new members which will result in improved atmospheres for the student athletes.”
The CSSHL also announced that the search for a league president will begin immediately. Applicants may apply through the league website. The league hopes to have a president in place by August 1, 2016.
The CSSHL also adopted a Best Practices manual as a resource for programs to refer to, along with a Minimum Standards manual for programs to adhere by to ensure quality across the league. The CSSHL also adopted a three-year strategy.
League members voted unanimously to grant OHA Edmonton full membership status.
The following rule changes will take effect beginning in the 2016-17 season:
Overtime format has been changed from 4-on-4 to 3-on-3 for five minutes.
The Midget Prep, Midget Varsity, Elite 15s, Female Prep and Female Varsity Divisions will now have a 10-minute on-ice warmup prior to games.
