The semifinals are set at the Chilliwack Bantam AAA Thanksgiving Tournament, with the top team from each pool advancing safely through Sunday’s playoff rounds.
NSWC will battle DHA in the first semifinal at 8 a.m. on Monday, October 13 while OHA faces the Colorado Thunderbirds at 8:30 a.m. The winners will move on and meet in the final at 2 p.m.
The Winterhawks have yet to give up a goal in five games at the tournament. NSWC beat Edmonton CAC 5-0 in the quarterfinals after knocking off Kamloops 7-0 in their first elimination game on Sunday morning. They finished atop Pool A with a 3-0-0 record after beating the Calgary Bisons 2-0, Prince George 9-0, and the Vancouver Thunderbirds 6-0.
DHA edged the Calgary Flames 4-3 to advance to the semis. On their way to the final four the Wild recorded a 5-2 win over Vancouver in the round of 16. They were first in Pool B, with five points, notching easy wins vs. Kamloops 6-0 and VRC 9-1 and tying Pursuit of Excellence 1-1 in their opening round-robin game. POE also finished with five points but DHA had a better goal differential.
OHA won their quarterfinal matchup vs. the Calgary Bisons 6-1 and their first playoff game 5-0 over the host Chilliwack Bruins. Wins over Richmond 2-1, Calgary Edge 7-5, and Edmonton CAC 11-0 gave them top spot in Pool C.
The Colorado Thunderbirds, the only American team participating in the tournament, took on POE for a spot in the semifinals. The two teams had met a month ago at the 2014 Bantam Can-Am Super Series and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. This time Colorado had the upper hand, winning 4-2. The T-Birds downed the Calgary Edge 6-1 on Sunday and were the No. 1 team in Pool D, going 3-0-0 in round-robin play as they earned wins over the Calgary Flames 5-0, Semiahmoo 5-2, and Chilliwack 11-0.
