March 5, 2020

Coquitlam Express – 5
Langley Rivermen – 4

Massimo Rizzo scored twice and Will Margel chipped in with three assists as the Coquitlam Express outlasted the Langley Rivermen 5-4 Wednesday night to complete their first-round series sweep and advance to Round 2 of the BCHL Playoffs.

Coquitlam’s Connor Gregga scored the lone first-period goal, before the game broke open in the second with each team scoring three times. It was Sean Bunting, Ryan Helliwell and Tanner Versluis for the Rivermen and Rizzo, Ethan O’Rourke and Steven Bellini for the Express which made it 4-3 Coquitlam after two.

Rizzo put Coquitlam up by two midway through the final frame before Helliwell notched his second of the game, but that would be as close as Langley would come.

The Express will await the winner of the other Mainland Division semifinal between the Chilliwack Chiefs and the Surrey Eagles.

The Chiefs are now up 3-2 with Game 6 going Saturday night in Surrey.

The first game of Series 2 will be played in Coquitlam, next Friday, March 13, at 7:00 PM.
