The Top 3 Battle for #1

The race to the end of the regular season promises to be a thriller in the CSSHL’s top Bantam Prep division.

Just six points separate the Top 3 teams. And each of them will play a pair of head to head matchups over the final three games.

Delta Green, who have posted the best winning percentage since mid-November, are leading West Van by three points. BWC likewise, trail West Van by three.

The Top 3 have separated themselves from the pack by a good margin. However, St. George’s and OHA with four games in hand, could move up and challenge Burnaby, should the Lions slip up over their final three games, all at home.

Delta finish – vs #3, #2 and #9

Delta Green will finish with two big away games in two weeks time, facing #3 BWC on Friday, February 22 at 7:45 PM, and then meeting #2 West Van at Hollyburn the following evening, at 6:15 PM. They will then wrap the regular season March 2 at home vs #7 Yale.

Green were given a scare today, by #9 Pacific Coast at Planet ice, winning 5-4 in OT, after handling them 8-2 on Saturday. Shots today were 59-31 Delta. So kudos to PCHA’s Ryan Parker, who made 55 saves.

West Van finish – vs #1, #4, and #3

West Van, after their Saturday, February 23 game vs #1 Delta Green, will face #4 St. Georges at UBC the next morning at 10:30 AM, and then finish the following weekend with an away game March 2, at 7:45 PM vs #3 BWC.

West Van handled winless Shawnigan 8-1 in their most recent game, yesterday.

BWC finish – vs #1, #13, and #2

BWC, after the Friday, February 22 game vs #1 Delta Green, will get a day’s rest and then host #13 Delta White, on Sunday, at 9:30 AM, before finishing with the big game vs #2 West Van on March 2.

BWC edged #6 Okanagan 6-5 yesterday at BWC; and were outshot 66-37! BWC had opened a 4-1 lead after the first, outshooting Okanagan 23-21. Both teams scored a pair in the second. Okanagan got one with 5:20 left and then an empty netter. Backup goalies for both teams came in around the half way mark.

Scoring Leaders

First year Connor Bedard of West Van continues to light it up, scoring 59G-24A in 27 games for 83 points. Bedard is the only 2005 born in the Top 20.

Delta’s Matthew Ward and West Van’s Fraser Minten are in a battle for second overall. Ward is leading by a point with 23G-38A, 61 vs Minton’s 14A-46A, 60.

OHA Edmonton’s Koehn Ziemmer with 30G-26A, 56, and West Van’s Andrej Kovacevic, 24G-26A, 5-, round out the Top 5.
