CSSHL Update – BWC Bantam Prep (18-6-2)
Burnaby Winter Club’s Bantam Preps played four games on the weekend and collected all eight possible points, picking up four wins. All four wins were by three goals or more.
Game 1 – Feb 1 vs Rink (12-8-1)
BWC kicked the weekend off with a 5-0 win against Rink.
The game was scoreless until a pair of goals for BWC late in the second. Jaeger Murdock scored shorthanded with just over two minutes left and Adam Lore added another 50 seconds later.
Murdock scored his second of the game early in the third, with goals from Brandon Lisowsky and Lawrence Hu securing the win.
Kyle Kelsey made 28 saves for the shutout, holding it down until the floodgates opened for BWC.
Game 2 – Feb 2 vs Edge (7-12-1)
In the first of two games on Saturday, BWC took down Edge by a 7-3 score.
The game was decided pretty early. BWC scored six goals in the first period, allowing them to go on cruise control over the final 40 minutes.
Tyson Dyck had four assists to lead BWC skaters in points this game, and Merik Erickson made 27 saves for the win.
Game 3 – Feb 2 vs Northern Alberta (8-12-0)
If you’re a fan of high scoring hockey this was the game for you. A total of 15 goals were scored, with BWC scoring nine of them in a 9-6 win.
NAX opened the scoring early but Dyck scored twice to give BWC a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Things got crazy in an eight goal second period. BWC scored five goals while NAX scored three.
NAX scored twice to start the third and make the game 7-6, but Brandon Lisowsky put the game away with just over two minutes to play – then added an empty netter.
It was a rare game in which BWC was outshot, 50-40, but Kelsey was the better of the two goaltenders.
Lisowsky (3G-1A) and Dyck (3G-2A) both recorded hat-tricks for BWC and combined for nine points.
Game 4 – Feb 3 vs Notre Dame (6-10-4)
BWC finished the weekend exactly how they started – with a 5-0 win.
This time it was Erickson in goal, stopping all 27 shots to record his third shutout of the season. He is the only Bantam Prep goalie with three shutouts.
Tyler Chan – the top scorer on BWC’s Bantam Varsity team – was with the Bantam Preps for the final two games this weekend, and in this game he led all skaters with a goal and two assists.
Around the league
It may not look like it at first due to significant differences in games played, but the top of the Bantam Prep division is tight.
The top three teams – Delta Green (20-3-2), West Van (20-5-1) and BWC – all sit eight points up on the rest of the teams, but those remaining teams all have several games in hand.
Don’t be surprised to see teams like St. George’s (15-7-0), Okanagan (14-6-2), and OHA Edmonton (15-8-0) rise up the standings.
Even Yale (12-6-3) and Rink (12-8-1) are within striking distance if they go on a run.
