The Canadian Sport School Hockey League has announced expansion of teams for existing members for the 2018-19 season.
The BWC Academy and Yale Hockey Academy will each be adding a team to the Bantam Varsity Division.
BWC Academy added a Bantam Prep team for the first time last fall; Yale added a bantam team in 2015-2016, in the second year of the program.
Delta, Okanagan Hockey Academy, Pursuit of Excellence and Edge were the first to add bantams, in 2014-2015.
The league started 2009-2010 with five Midget Prep and 3 Midget Varsity teams.
E15 expands to 13 teams
St. George’s School, which entered the league this year with two Bantam Varsity teams, has been approved to operate an Elite 15 team, which with the expansion Prairie Hockey Academy, will give the division 13 teams next season.
As announced in January, the new Prairie Hockey Academy will also be competing in the Midget Varsity Division.
Bantam Prep expands to 15 teams
St. George’s School along with the West Van Academy have each been approved for Bantam Prep teams, giving the division 15 teams next season.
“With the Prairie Hockey Academy joining our league and the expansion of our existing members, we will have over 70 teams competing in the CSSHL next season,” said Kevin Goodwin, Chief Operating Officer of the CSSHL.
“The 2018-19 season marks the 10th season for the CSSHL, and to see the growth from just eight teams our inaugural season to over 70 has been astonishing and we look forward to added growth as we continue to strive towards becoming a national league.”
Divisional scheduling formats and post-season formats will be finalized at the 2018 CSSHL AGM, held May 7-9 in Red Deer.
