CSSHL Midget Prep – BWC alone in first place

BWC Midget Prep finished their year with another dominant win, in a 9-2 decision over Yale on Friday, December 22, in Abbotsford.

BWC now stand alone at the top of the CSSHL Midget Prep division, two points up on Delta, with a game in hand.

Delta wrapped up their first half with a 5-1 win over West Van on December 16. Delta are five up on Yale.

The BWC-Yale tilt was the final game on the CSSHL schedule prior to the Christmas break, and the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Yale came into the game just five points back of BWC, on a 17-5-2 OTL, 139GF – 75GA record.

BWC were 20-1-1 OTL, 110GA – 53GA, prior to the game.

In the game Friday afternoon, BWC quickly established a commanding lead, scoring five goals in the first ten minutes.

Elan Bar-Lev-Wise opened at 18:17 on the power play, followed by Sean Donaldson, Tom Sweeney (2) and Tyler Schleppe at even strength.

Kalen Szeto closed the period with another power play goal with a minute to play, 6-0.

BWC added two more in the first half of the second period on markers from Nick Poisson and Bar-Lev-Wise before Yale’s Holden Kodak got one on the power play with 4:45 to go. Donaldson then scored his second of the game to wrap up the second period scoring, 9-1.

Yale’s Tyson Phare scored the lone third period goal, with 4:06 left to finish the scoring at 9-2.

Shots wrapped up 39-32 for BWC.

BWC were 2-13 on the power play; Yale were 1-7.

Sweeney and Bar Lev Wise lead the team with 2-G-1A. Ryan Helliwell was 3A.

Nick Lee got the win, stopping 30; while Yale goalies Campbell Arnold (stopped 15 of 19 in 31:26) and Cole Muys (stopped 14 of 19, in 28:34) took the loss.

The BWC victory comes after two high scoring wins over PoE the previous weekend –  11-0 and 9-2, and stretches the BWC winning streak to 12 games, one more than Okanagan Red, who are now just two back of Yale.

The CSSHL Midget Prep division regular season resumes Saturday, January 6, with Manitoba based Rink playing two games in Penticton, facing OHA White on Saturday and OHA Red on Sunday.

BWC open 2018 with a regular season game vs Shawnigan, Thursday, January 11, at the Delta Showcase at Planet Ice, followed by exhibition games vs Everett Jr Silvertips 18U, and Okanagan Hockey Academy Red, Friday and Saturday.

The following weekend they host #15 Coeur d’Alene in a two game series, as they return to league play.
