Not much has changed in the past two weeks in the top division of the Canadian Sports School Hockey League.
OHA Red, with the most mature roster in the Midget Prep division, continues to dominate with a perfect record, while Calgary’s Edge, Winnipeg’s Rink and Lower Mainland-based Delta are all rolling along with strong records.
Although OHA Red have played mostly teams on the bottom end of the division so far, Coeur d’Alene twice, IHA, Banff, Okanagan White; they won their most recent game handily against #2 Edge 5-1.
Winnipeg based Rink, a first year team in the league, are in third place with a 6-1-1 record. Although they’ve also played a majority of games vs lower echelon teams, they downed NAX 7-3 in their last outing October 30 at the Frontier Ice Arena in Couer d’Alene. Their only 60 minute loss so far was a 5-3 decision to Okanagan White October 29. Early on, they dropped a 4-3 OT decision to Edge at the Banff Showcase weekend, on October 8.
Delta are in fourth place at the moment, their only blemish so far as a 3-0 loss to BWC on October 22. They downed Burnaby 5-2 earlier in the month after scoring a flurry of quick goals in the second period despite being outshot by a large margin. The two teams will meet again this weekend, (2:00 pm Saturday and Planet Ice Delta) before heading to Calgary next weekend for their first league Showcase this season.
Pursuit of Excellence and NAX are tied with Delta with 12 points but have played one and two more games, respectively. Pursuit has just two losses – to the Edge 3-0 on October 7 and to Okanagan Red 6-2 on October 16.
Yale upset BWC last weekend, scoring three unanswered to finish 3-2, in a game that BWC dominated on the shot clock 33-23. Yale opened their season with a 2-1 win over BWC September 23 and then lost the rematch 6-4 on October 15.
BWC meanwhile have yet to play any of the Interior or Alberta teams, and have split their matchups against other Lower Mainland teams, Yale and Delta. They play Delta this coming weekend, and then head out to Calgary for a Showcase weekend, November 11. BWC has dominated on shot clock most games – so could move up if they can start to convert.
