Midget Prep Division Playoffs
Day two of the CSHHL Midget Prep division playoffs wrapped up Thursday, with another six games completed, as the top 12 teams battled in three round robin pools. The top seeds from each pool plus one wildcard team will advance to the semi-finals Saturday.
Pool A – Day 2
In Pool A, the top seeded Burnaby Winter Club were defeated 6-4 EN by #6 Northern Alberta Extreme to end their dreams of reaching the Championship game on Sunday.
Both teams needed a win to keep their hopes alive after losing their opening games Wednesday in extra time.
BWC had lost 5-4 in a shoot out to #12 Pursuit of Excellence, after outshooting PoE 61-22; while NAX had lost 6-5 to #7 Shawnigan Lake in a tight game where each period had ended tied.
Shawnigan Lake kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-1 win over Pursuit. Shawnigan lead 2-0 after the first, then answered PoE’s early second period goal late in the frame, to seal the win.
Shawnigan will play BWC in their final round robin game Friday afternoon. A win will guarantee Shawnigan a spot in the semi-finals Saturday.
Northern Alberta will wrap up their round robin Friday morning vs PoE.
Pool B, Day 2
In Pool B, the #2 seeded Rink Academy notched their second win, with a 4-1 victory over Yale.
The #8 seeded Edge Academy also won their second game, with an 8-1 win over IHA.
The two leaders will meet Friday, with the winner advancing to the semis.
Rink had downed IHA 5-0 on day one, while Edge had defeated Yale 3-2 in OT.
Pool C, Day 2
In Pool C, #3 seeded Delta also secured their second win, with a 5-4 OT win over Okanagan Red. Delta had opened with a 4-3 win over Pacific Coast on Day 1. The two wins put Delta on top of their pool so far.
OHA Edmonton shutout Pacific Coast 4-0, after losing 4-3 in a shoot out vs Okanagan Red in their opener.
After the loss to Delta, OHA Red is tied with OHA Edmonton, with a win and and a loss.
