BWC MIDGET PREP

Not much has happened yet in the CSSHL Midget Prep league since the Xmas break. BWC has not played a game yet. The team they’re chasing, #1 Northern Alberta, has played one game, losing 3-2 to Rink on Friday, January 10.

BWC dropped their final game of the 2019 campaign to Yale, a 5-3 EN decision, on December 20.

The two results mean that NAX has opened a four point lead on BWC, but BWC has a game in hand.

OHA Edmonton have played five more games than BWC, and are now just four points back of Burnaby, in third place overall.

BWC lead all BC based clubs by a good margin. Shawnigan and West Van are closest, tied with 40 points, in sixth and seventh place overall.

The one stat that jumps out for BWC, reflects their outstanding defensive play. The Lions have allowed just 40 goals over 21 games, the lowest in the league by a significant margin.

BWC goalies Thomas Milic (10-1-0, 1.55 GA) and Tanner Johnson (8-2-0, 2.01 GGA) are second and fourth overall in GGA.

On the other side of the equation, BWC, although pressing NAX for the number 1 spot, are 10th overall in goals scored. Clearly, this underlines the strength of their defensive game.

Looking ahead, BWC will play five games in January, all against BC teams. They’ll face #7 West Van at Hollyburn this Friday and #12 Delta at home Saturday.

West Van, with three of the league’s Top 10 offensive players, will really test the BWC defensive game.

The following week, BWC play two more home games, vs #15 Okanagan Black and #9 Yale, Friday, January 24 and Sunday, January 26.

They’ll wrap January and start February with three games in Penticton.

The following weekend, the team will head to Winnipeg for a big series against three of the Top 5 teams, including #1 NAX, and #3 OHA Edmonton. They’ll also face the host Rink club, #5 overall.

After that series they’ll return to the Lower Mainland for the remaining five regular season games – two at home vs Shawnigan, then meet Yale and West Van, before wrapping with a game at UBC vs St. George’s.
