January 31, 2020

BWC Midget Prep are in Kamloops this weekend for a three game Showcase weekend at Kal Tire Place, along with Okanagan Black, Okanagan Red, Delta, St. George’s and Pursuit of Excellence.

Action got underway early Friday afternoon, with BWC downing Okanagan Red, 6-3 in the opener.

They’ll face Pursuit on Saturday evening and Okanagan Red on Sunday morning.

In the opener Friday, BWC opened with a quick goal just 38 seconds in, on a marker from Tyson Dyck, the first of three from him in the game – then capitalized on a big four goal second period, to take a 5-2 lead into the final frame.

Maxim Borvinskly scored early, again –  in the second, to put BWC up 2-0, but OHA Red’s Dawson Milliken quickly answered just over a minute later to briefly make it tight.

It was the second of a flurry of goals.

Dyck answered just 16 seconds later. And 21 seconds after that, Luca Cagnoni, scored, to open a 4-1 lead with just over 4 minutes into the period.

Dyck completed his hat trick with 4:21 left in the period, but was answered by OHA’s Tyson Lautard a couple of minutes later, to close out the second frame, 5-2 BWC.

There were 32 shots in the period.

In the third, each team would score one each to finish it at 6-3. OHA poured it on in the final frame with 14 shots, to close out the shot clock at 35-33 BWC, but couldn’t beat Thomas Milic.

Dyck also put up 2A in the game, to lead the scoring with a total of five points. Rocco La Cara was 3A, and Luca Cagnoni was 1G-2A. Mats Lindgren and Jaeger Murdock were 2A for BWC.

Milic got the win with 30 stops, while Marek Pocherewny took the loss, stopping 29 of 35.

Dawson Milliken lead OHA Red offensively with 1G-2A.

The weekend resumes Saturday evening for BWC with a 7:30 PM tilt vs Pursuit, then wraps with game vs OHA Black at 11:00 AM, Sunday.

In the one other game at Kal Tire this afternoon, Delta downed OHA Black 5-3. St. George’s face Pursuit in an 8:00 PM game to round the first day.

BWC is now one point back of NAX in the standings, the difference an OTW for NAX and an OTL for BWC.
