The Yale Lions completed their five game weekend sweep Monday afternoon with a 6-4 win over ninth place International Hockey Academy at Winsport in Calgary.
The weekend sweep vaulted the Lions into first place in the CSSHL Midget Prep division, with a perfect 9-0-0 record, one win better than BWC, who are also posting a perfect record, at 8-0-0.
BWC were also in Calgary on the weekend, and swept a three game series vs NAX (5th), OHA Edmonton (11th) and Pursuit of Excellence (12th). BWC will play OHA Red (4-4-0) twice at home this coming weekend.
Delta are right behind the two leaders, with an 8-2-0 record. Delta had a bye weekend, and will host Okanagan White (1-4-0) for two games this coming weekend at Planet Ice Delta. Two weekends from now, Delta and BWC will face off in a home and home series.
Abbotsford-based Yale Academy came into the Winsport Showcase at 4-0-0 and overwhelmed two struggling opponents in a 38-4 turkey shoot in their first three games.
Yale outscored winless host team Banff Academy 28-4 in their first two games Thursday and Friday, then posted a 10-0 win over 14th place Coeur d’Alene Saturday, before downing previously undefeated Edge (Calgary) 3-2 on Sunday.
Edge are now in 4th place, with a 7-1-0 record.
Yale will travel to the Island next weekend for games vs Pacific Coast and Shawnigan Lake and then head to Coeur d’Alene the following weekend for a triple header vs Pursuit, OHA Edmonton and Rink Academy.
Yale will not face Delta until a December 2-3 home and home series, to kick off a very competitive month. They’ll then travel to the Shawnigan Lake Showcase for a three game weekend vs Edge, Okanagan Red and Pursuit, before hosting Pursuit at home December 15.
Yale will meet BWC at home on Friday, December 22 at 12:15 PM at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre, in the last game of the season prior to the Christmas break.
In other games at the Banff Showcase, Pursuit of Excellence won two of their three games, falling 4-0 to Edge on Friday, before downing IHA 2-1 in a shootout Saturday, and then defeating Banff 6-2 on Sunday. Pursuit are now 3-6-0.
West Van lost all three of their games: 6-5 in OT to Coeur d’Alene, 5-0 to Edge and 5-4 to IHA; and are now 4-5-1 on the year.
Shawnigan Lake lost to IHA 8-6, then downed Banff 9-0 and Couer d’Alene 5-1 to finish two for three on the weekend; are now 4-4-0.
