de Jong notches first ECAC award

ALBANY, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey sophomore Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) and freshman Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) received ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Tufto earned his second-ever player of the week award while de Jong was honored by the league office for the first time in his career.

Tufto had a remarkable weekend for the Bobcats at Maine as he led ECAC Hockey with three goals and three assists for six points, all three of which were the second-most in the nation. Tufto also recorded one of three hat tricks in the nation on the weekend and had the only one by an ECAC Hockey skater.

On Friday night, Tufto recorded his first career hat trick and added two assists for his first career five-point game. Tufto now has 20 career multi-point games. On the season, he leads ECAC Hockey with nine goals and 18 points and is tied for fourth nationally.

de Jong had one of his best weekends of the season as he scored in back-to-back games and had an assist for three points. He led the nation with a +6 plus/minus rating and was one of six rookies in ECAC Hockey with two goals on the weekend. He also tied for tied for the second most points nationally with three points.

On the season, de Jong was the first Bobcat freshman to reach 10 points this season after recording two points in a game for the second time this season. de Jong also had recorded a +5 in the Friday night game as the Bobcats won 7-2.

 

de Jong (1999) played minor hockey at North Shore Winter Club, before joining the BWC Academy for two years of midget hockey, and then moving on to the BCHL Prince George Spruce Kings. He lead the Spruce Kings in scoring last year, notching 17G-46A, 63 points, in 50 regular season games.
