November 27/12 – The Langley Bantam A1 Eagles wrapped up an impressive weekend in style, shutting out the Kelowna Jr. Rockets 3-0 in the Final of the Dallas Saunders Tournament in Abbotsford.
Spurring on the Eagle’s offence once again was James Malm. His two goal performance brought his tournament total to 8 goals and 16 points. Christian Bosa added an empty net goal that sealed the victory for Langley.
At the other end of the ice, Nathan Lange earned his second shutout of the tournament. The whitewash brought his tournament goals against average down to a paltry 0.50. The win was also his fourth of the weekend.
Overall, the Eagles outscored their opponents by a 32-5 margin. This dominant performance was made all the more impressive by a shortened roster, which included only 12 skaters and 1 goalie for Sunday’s gold medal game. The gutsy effort came on the heels of a 4-1 win over Coquitlam in the semifinal and a 11-0 romp over Richmond in the quarterfinal.
The only smudge on the Eagle’s record throughout the tournament was a 3-3 tie against the Vancouver TBirds in the round robin. Even that effort probably felt like a win, as the Eagles rallied from a 3-1 second period deficit, posting the tying goal in the game’s final minutes.
