
BC’s Matthew Barzal and USA’s Auston Matthews are tied at the top of the scoring stats at this year’s IIHF U18 tournament in Zug, Switzerland. After five games, four round robin and one quarter final, the two lead with 12 points.
The two will face off in the semifinal on Saturday, April 25.
The USA leads the tournament in team scoring with 37 goals, more than one third of them netted in a 13-1 blowout against Germany. The Americans have also been solid defensively, allowing just 10 goals against.
Canada is second in scoring with 26 goals for, vs 14 against.
Finland has only 6 GA in 5 games, including two vs Canada; and 17 for. They’ll face the Swiss in the other semi. The Swiss entered their quarterfinal with 1 OTW and 3 losses, and shocked the 4-0-0 Russians, 5-0.
