Both representatives of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) didn’t disappoint Thursday for the start of the 2017 Cyclone Taylor Cup.

The host Creston Valley Thunder Cats and KIJHL Champion Beaver Valley Nitehawks both shutout their opponents on the opening day of the Junior B Provincial Hockey Championship.

Beaver Valley took on the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) Champion Campbell River Storm in the first game of the tournament, shutting out the Storm 6-0.

Six different Nitehawks players netted goals while netminder Tallon Kramer made 28 saves for the shutout.

Later in the night, the Thunder Cats took on the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) Champion Aldergrove Kodiaks.

Outshooting the Kodiaks 38-27, the Thunder Cats would score both their goals shorthanded, eventually picking up the 2-0 win.

Sebastian Kilcommons and Liam Plunkett scored the only two goals of the game while Brock Lefebvre posted the shut out in the Creston goal.

Action at the 2017 Cyclone Taylor Cup continues Friday as the Beaver Valley Nitehawks match up with the Aldergrove Kodiaks at 3:30 pm PST.

All four teams are looking to finish either first or second following round robin play in order to battle for the Provincial Championship Sunday night.
