SENIOR FORWARD RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY AFTER FIVE-GOAL WEEKEND, INCLUDING HAT TRICK AND OT GAME-WINNER

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After powering Denver to a sweep of Western Michigan by scoring the game-winning goal both nights, DU senior forward Jarid Lukosevicius was selected the NCAA First Star of the Week, NCAA Hockey announced on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Lukosevicius was also named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Lukosevicius (Squamish, B.C.) totaled five goals and earned First Star of the Game both nights in Denver’s conference-opening sweep of the Broncos. On Friday, the senior recorded his second career hat trick in a 5-2 victory, tallying goals three different ways. He scored the game’s first goal short-handed on a breakaway, while his second marker broke a 2-2 tie in the second period and served as the game-winner. He capped his hat trick with a power play goal in the third period to seal the victory, while he put five shots on goal and was +1 in the win.

The next night, Lukosevicius added two more tallies in a 4-3 victory, again striking on the power play in the second period, while he buried the game-winner midway through overtime to settle the 3-3 tie. The British Columbia native scored on five of his nine shots on goal and posted a +1 plus/minus in the series.

With the goals on the weekend, Lukosevicius stretched his point streak to six games to start the season, while his seven goals this year lead the NCHC and rank third nationally. He also has three assists so far this season and a +8 plus/minus.

Lukosevicius came up through the North Shore Winter Club bantam program 2008-2010, then graduated to the Vancouver NW Giants for three years before playing BCHL for two seasons with the Powell River Kings (2013-14, 2014-15). He put up 33G-40A in his final year with Powell River.

Last year, his third at Denver, he finished 21G-13A in 41 games. He is now a Vancouver Canucks prospect – here is a great report from Daniel Wagner of the Vancouver Courier, published in advance of this years’s training camp – Jarid Lukosevicius.

Lukosevicius marks the fourth straight week an NCHC player has garnered an NCAA Star of the Week, while he is the second to earn First-Star honors. Last week, Miami junior forward Gordie Green was tabbed Second Star, while Minnesota Duluth sophomore defenseman Scott Perunovich was the first NCHC skater to earn First Star of the Week this season on Oct. 23. St. Cloud State senior forward Patrick Newell was chosen Second Star back on Oct. 16, which started the four-week streak. Each Tuesday, the NCAA announces its Three Stars of the Week in NCAA men’s hockey.

Princeton senior forward Ryan Kuffner was named the NCAA Men’s Hockey Second Star of the Week on Tuesday behind Lukosevicius, while Minnesota State junior forward Charlie Gerard claimed Third Star of the Week.

Lukosevicius and the Pioneers hit the road this weekend for two games at No. 2/2 St. Cloud State.
