Two more of BC’s Major Midget League teams have placed first in their pools to advance to the playoff round at the Mac’s Tourney in Calgary today. The Vancouver NW Giants had already clinched first spot in their pool with a 4-0-0 record yesterday.
The Greater Vancouver Canadians won a tough, close game against St. Albert Raiders to tie the Raiders for first place in their pool and advance to the playoff round, with a record of 3-1-0. The Canadians scored near the end of the third to clinch the win after the Raiders had tied 2-2 at the close of the second period.
The Cariboo Cougars also finished first, with 7 points on a record of 3-0-1, closing out Edmonton’s South Side Athletic Club 7-2. The Cougars had tied Prince Albert Mintos yesterday 1-1.
The Okanagan Rockets finished on a strong note, with a 5-3 win over the Calgary Bisons; but had already been eliminated from playoff play the day before.
