Kamloops product Ryan Gropp was first of Western Canadian born Round 2 picks.

The WHL Seattle T-Birds left winger was selected #41 overall by the New York Rangers. Gropp played two years in the BCHL with the Penticton Vees prior to the WHL. He played bantam for the Kamloops Blazers Jardine A1 team in 2010-11 and midget at Okanagan Hockey Academy.

North Vancouver’s Jansen Harkins, a center for the WHL Prince George Cougars, went to Winnipeg, at #47. Harkins played his minor hockey at the North Shore Winter Club and for the NW Giants in the BC Major Midget league prior to the WHL.

Grande Prairie, Alberta product Brendan Guhle, a d-man, was the final Canadian born WHL pick. Guhle was picked #51 overall, by Buffalo, and plays for the WHL Prince Albert Raiders. Guhle played his first year of Bantam in Grande Prairie, then moved to the Sherwood Park Flyers, for second year bantam and midget hockey.

The two earlier WHL picks, #37 Brandon Carlo (Tri-City) and #38 Paul Bittner, are US-born players.

19 second rounders played last year in the CHL (7 OHL, 7 QJMHL, 5 WHL).

7 played in Europe.

4 played in the USHL.

1 played for Boston University, in the US college system.
