The four North Van Peewee Storm rep teams have officially kicked off their seasons. How will each team fare playing in a higher flight than they did in placement matches? While it’s still too early to say for sure, here’s an overview of how things are starting out for the Peewee Storm.
Peewee Storm A1 – fitting well in Flight 2
The Storm A1 dominated Flight 3 in placement matches with a 7-1-0 record. The team’s latest challenge is beginning season play up in Flight 2.
So far, the Storm A1 have answered the call. After losing their opener to Chilliwack (2-1-0) by a narrow margin of 4-2, the Storm A1 were able able to grind out a win in their second game.
That second game came nearly two weeks after game one, but the team showed no signs of rust, putting together a great overall defensive effort in a 2-1 victory against Hollyburn (1-3).
It’s still very early in the season, but expect the Storm A1 to be competitive with the top teams of Flight 2.
Storm A1 regular season:
|11/10/2015||Chilliwack Peewee A1-T1||2||4||L||0||10|
|11/22/2015||Hollyburn Peewee A1-T1||2||1||W||1||2|
The Storm A1 return home to Harry Jerome Friday night to take on South Delta (1-2-1) at 7:30pm.
Peewee Storm A2 – coming close in Flight 4
The Storm A2 moved up to Flight 4 after a 4-4-0 record in Flight 5 placement matches. Through two games the team is still searching for their first win, but they’ve been close.
On November 10th, the Storm A2 put forth a good effort against Chilliwack (1-2-0) but came up just short in a 3-2 loss. The next game was a 5-2 loss against Sno-King (1-1-1).
Storm A2 regular season:
|11/10/2015||Chilliwack Peewee A2-T2||2||3||L||1||6|
|11/14/2015||Sno-King Peewee A1||2||5||L||1||4|
The next action for the Storm A2 is on Wednesday night when the team heads to George Preston RC to take on Langley (1-2-1) at 7:15 pm.
Peewee Storm A3 – close games in Flight 7
The Storm A3 finished with a 4-3-1 record in Flight 8 placement matches. Starting the season in Flight 7, the team has been a part of two extremely tight contests this season.
The opener for the Storm A3 came in the form of a 3-3 tie against Cloverdale (1-1-1). The next night, the team had a hard-fought game against Surrey (2-1-0), which ended in a 2-1 loss.
The fact that the Storm A3 tied Cloverdale, who have also won and lost one game, may be a sign that the team will be around the middle of the pack in Flight 7.
Storm A3 regular season:
|11/14/2015||Cloverdale Peewee A4-T4||3||3||T||1||4|
|11/15/2015||Surrey Peewee A2-T2||1||2||L||1||0|
The Storm A3 are in action for an afternoon game this Sunday, hosting Richmond (0-3-0), 2:00pm at Harry Jerome.
Peewee Storm A4 – rebounded well in last game
In Flight 8, the Storm A4 have played three games – the only North Van Peewee team to have done so. In those three games, the third one looks a lot better than the first two.
After forgettable 8-0 and 81 losses against Vancouver (4-0) and Hollyburn (1-3), the Storm A4 were able to rebound in their next game.
It wasn’t a win, but a strong effort landed the Storm A4 a tie against undefeated Surrey (3-0-1). If the team can put up more efforts like that, they will fare well in Flight 8.
Here’s a game-by-game look at the Storm A4 season to this point:
|11/13/2015||Vancouver Peewee A2-T3||0||8||L||1||4|
|11/14/2015||Hollyburn Peewee A2-T2||1||8||L||1||4|
|11/20/2015||Surrey Peewee A3-T3||4||4||T||1||4|
Update: The Storm A4 played BWC A4 Saturday, Nov. 21 (results unavailable at press time) and travel to New Westminster for game five, Thursday at 6:00 pm at the fabled Queens Park Arena.
