After several weeks at the number two spot, the North Vancouver Bantam A1 Storm have edged into first place of the tightly contested Flight 3 division of PCAHA bantam rep hockey.

The Storm move into first with a record of 11-5-2, and 41 points, a single point ahead of Seattle Junior A1s, despite posting a 5-4 loss to third place New West (39 pts) Jan 23 and a tie vs. fifth place Coquitlam (34 pts) on Jan 16.

The North Van A1s lead the league in scoring with 72 GF and are second only to Seattle in GA, at 43 vs Seattle’s stingy 35.

With two just two games left, vs 10th place Semiahmoo, who they’ve beaten twice, 6-1 and 5-2, and vs 9th place Langley, who they downed 6-3 on Dec 1; the Storm could add six points to their total and possibly hang on to win the regular season league banner.

However, Seattle will have to stumble in at least one of their three remaining games for that to happen, as they have the potential to add 9 points to their current total.

Seattle play Van T-Birds, North Delta and Semiahmoo to finish. They’ve beaten Vancouver and North Delta by 4-2 scores, and Semi 2-1 on Dec 14.

However, Seattle have not played well since losing to the Storm 5-2 on Dec 21, posting two wins against three losses and two ties in the seven game stretch.

Storm A1 Head Coach Bob McCuaig commented that Kyle Bishop and Jack Shipway have been playing particularly well for the team:

“Kyel has been putting up some strong numbers and has been using his incredible speed to open games. Jack is on the other end of the spectrum, and has been incredible defensively since being move from D to Centre due to a season ending injury to one of other forwards.”

McCuaig also commended hard hitting D-man Scott Newall for consistently getting two or three big, clean hits in every game, running the power play unit, and being the Storm player most likely to advance to a junior hockey.
