NSWC Coach Profile: Neil Stevenson-Moore

in Other News, regular season

When Neil Stevenson-Moore was playing hockey at Princeton, he learned an important lesson from his coach Guy Gadowsky: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

Steveson-Moore, the former pro with the Edinburgh Capitals, is now behind the bench himself, hoping to share that lesson with the Bantam A2 Winterhawks.

“Try whatever you want to try, try it two or three times, but if it doesn’t work after two or three times we’ll probably have a discussion and try something else,” said Stevenson-Moore speaking on his coaching methodology.

By showing confidence and allowing his players to grow, Stevenson-Moore hopes to give them the tools needed to play at the next level.

“We’re not so much coaching for results. We’re much more trying help the boys pick up the habits that help you become a professional, college or junior player,” said Stevenson-Moore.

To date, his team seems to have been learning the lesson, both by making mistakes and showing steady growth. The Winterhawks sit in the middle of the pack in Flight 2, surrounded by A1 teams, with some big games coming up against Chilliwack, Seafair and the Burnaby Winter Club.
